The headset's mic offers strong intelligibility. It also enables support for various softphones like Skype for Business and Zoom. It’s worth downloading if for no other reason than the firmware upgrades it makes available for the headset, but it also allows for remote control of the headset’s on-ear controls, as well as settings and audio customization. A larger button on the outer panel of the right earcup answers or ends calls, or opens Microsoft Teams notifications. The on-ear controls worked seamlessly with the Apple Music app on an iMac in testing, allowing us to skip and pause audio with ease. A three-button array on the right ear’s side panel controls volume/track navigation (the two outer buttons) and playback (central button), and there’s a single mic mute button. The hardwired cable connects to the right earcup, which is also where the boom mic and on-ear controls are located. Internally, the headset employs 28mm drivers. The mic meets Microsoft Open Office requirements, which determine how well it suppresses surrounding environmental noise and office chatter, so it’ll also block out noisy neighbors, roommates, pets, and kids. The boom for the dual-mic array can be rotated up and out of your field of vision, and can be placed anywhere from pointing straight up or lowered to chin level. The earpads provide a notable degree of passive noise isolation, allowing for some peace and quiet while wearing them. The underside of the headband is also generously padded, and somehow the entire frame weighs only 4.4 ounces.
